The sample on the top left with the 2.2mm cable is 9.5cm (3.75in)  long "tip to tip".  If bent in a "U" shape it is suitable for "center plug" to "center plug" ports, distance 12mm to 22mm apart. The sample on the bottom left is the 5mm cable, 10.5cm (4.1in) long "tip to tip".  If bent in a "U" shape it is suitable for "center plug" to "center plug" ports, distance ~14mm to ~17mm apart.
Sample of application connecting  iBasso D1 and iHP-140 (additional images below) Image courtesy of Mr. Yoshihiro Sasaki of Japan	When bent into a "U" shape the connectors are parallel to each other - with a 2.2mm cable, the connectors will be parallel to each other at a distance of 12mm to 22mm. - with a 5.0mm cable, the connectors will be parallel to each other at a distance of 14mm to 17mm. These are the shortest cables we can make with shells.  If we remove the shells the distance from "center to center" can  be 8.1mm. These are just examples.   Distances between the centers are regulated by the length of the cables and are customized.

As we have mentioned in the above, the "tip to tip" measurement is not an accurate measurement.  
Example, if we do not strip the outer jacket and leave the connector boot intact the cable we need to make might be 3cm to 4cm longer in comparison to a cable with the striped out jacket and connector boot removed.  Both cables will have the same center to center distance but will be of different lengths.

To make the cable very short and more flexible we can remove the boot, strip 5mm of outer jacket and add heat shrink tubing so the cable diameter left is 2.2mm.  This will give you more flexibility when bending the cable and it can be as short as 8cm (3.15in) as shown on the pictures above.

Note: With Toslink to Toslink short cables, in addition to "center port" distance we need to know the:
- Position of the ports: Horizontal or Vertical
- Orientationof the shaved corners with respect to the horizontal line.  Are both UP, DOWN or one is UP and the other is DOWN, SIDEWAYS, etc.?

How short can they be:

a) MiniPlug to MiniPlug  / Toslink to MiniPlug / Toslink to Toslink cables with color shells for a "U" shaped cable (* see note below):
- minimum distance from center to center:  11mm (0.43in) /  cable length: Tip-2-Tip 8cm; the shells will be touching each other.  (with shells you can not get any closer)
*Note:  With such a short distance, 11mm,  we might remove the boot for maximum flexibility.

In an example above 11mm center to center the assembly length will be:
